Every so often I work on personal project in the studio. Lately I’ve been photographing teens and preteens kids doing what they love.

Let me introduce DeAndre, he’s a writer, a rapper, a basketball player, a brother, a son, a friend and so much more. When I was thinking about how to how to tell his story, I suggested bringing some ear buds to the session. His amazing mom came through big time. She packed up his microphone and ear phones to help tell her son’s story. This first image is my favorite image from the session, but he was a rock star with every single shutter take.

When booking sessions for teens, its important to talk about what makes your son or daughter him/her. We can’t start at what the images will look like, we have to talk about how we want them to feel. What milestones are we celebrating, what dreams are you reaching for, what is happening in your child’s story right now. Then create an image that tells so much more.
