Anyone who knows her, knows she likes to have a fun time. This post is a cheers to my mom, who inspires the fun in me. She has gone above and beyond for me my entire life. In a town where no one has much and even more had very little, my mom gave us the world. I remember several Halloweens she would dress up as a witch and delivery pumpkin shaped rice krispie bars to our class room.  At many family reunions she dressed in character as the prize patrol. And If there is a way to make someone feel special (even on a budget) it is her specialty.

There’s hasn’t been a time where getting silly was above her, she’s always been willing to “play” or paint, or goof or get a game going. Even today if there’s no board game to be found she  asks my children “who wants to play I spy?”

I stumbled across this photo today, and needed to share a piece of her story with you. For a few months she has been battling lung cancer. Ugh Cancer, maybe one of the ugliest words I know. Somehow despite her sickness and struggle, she makes everyone’s day a little bit better, a little more beautiful.  If you haven’t had the chance to meet her, you’re missing out.  She still finds the strength to answer my emails (about silly things like Big Brother) and send my kids a sucker and a card.  She lets me ramble on the phone about…who knows what. She puts value into the time she spends with everyone. She is not only living the length of her life, but the width as well.

I don’t know how she does it.

But I am blessed. Because she has given me the FUN GENE, and I get to share it with you.

But i am honored, because I get to call her mom.
