This past Saturday I had the joy of photographing a wedding here in Mankato. I had known the bride and groom 2-3 years, but was surprised to know as many guest as I did. So after rushing about from 11-3 photographing the bridal party I sat down to enjoy the ceremony. To my surprise I knew the couple to my right, to my front, the family in the corner, the older couple behind me, etc etc, and I knew them all because I was given the talent of photography. My eyes began to well up with tears(mind you I’m working here) as I recalled all the craziness that had brought me to that point. I caught the eye of a two year old I had photographed since birth, and her proud mother, and found myself completely humbled. Without my skill I may have never met them, and been so moved by the bond they share. Photography is an amazing thing. Maybe it was the fact that I hadn’t professionally photographed someone for three weeks, or the precious ceremony music that played, but for a long moment I remembered why I need to be a photographer. It’s not about me, or the pay check. It’s not even about perfect posing or the right outfit choice(although yes those things help) it’s about you. Everyone single one of you is connected to me through portraits of your family, or your friends. What a blessing it is to continue to be connected to your future, because of the one moment a photo can create, my prayer is that with your support together we will continue to capture the moments that matter!
