Scholarship Winners

Back in April, Kendall and I decided to give something extra special to a deserving senior in the Mankato area. We sent out applications to all the local schools asking for essays about the class of 2009. The essays were to be wrote about a deserving high school senior who was in financial need of senior portraits. Two of the letters touched us so dearly that we selected two deserving young ladies to receive the full scholarship.

When August came and Kendall and I were jolted with Barnett’s closing, we had many decision to make. We didn’t hesitate to decide to go through with the scholarship sessions and give out of our own pockets to purchase portraits for these young ladies, so now lets meet the winners
(for privacy of the ladies and their families, I did not post their entire essays. We asked that families with financial need apply, and after reading their stories Kendall and I were surely moved to tears. It’s stories like theirs that quickly remind us that life isn’t about what you don’t have, but what you do with the situations you do have).

Katie

Katie is a high school senior who attends Lesueur Henderson. Her essay was supported by a caring teacher Sue Jackson, and here is some of what Sue had to say….”Katie is a a lovely young women….with an incredible positive attitude. She has a winning smile and rarely gets upset, she approaches problems with maturity that many young people lack. Katie is a dear person and someone I feel would be very worthy candidate for a scholarship.”

Jessica

Jessica attends Lesueur Henderson High School as well. Her application was supported by Amy Fitzgerald, here is part of what Amy shared with us…”Jessica is delightfully friendly and a considerate young lady…she is a dedicated student and always willing to help others. Jessica has maintained her academic progress and plans to attend college. Jessica has high moral standards and refused to be swayed by peers or other pressures. She is always positive and a joy to be around.

Both of these ladies received a free on-location session in LeSueur, 4×6 proofs, an 8 image folio and portrait prints including, an 11×14, 2 5×7’s, & 32 wallets, valued at $350.
