Who is that crazy photographer you ask?

Sometimes I wonder myself, so I thought I’d let you know….

Name: Sherry Sell,

Hometown : Fulda, Minnesota (near Worthington) population 1212 *graduation year 1999

My Family: Both parents have small town jobs, I have one sister and two brothers, all of them older, all of them have their own family which includes one niece and three nephews (11, 13, 6 & 4 years old)  My mom has 10 bro & sisters and my dad has 4 siblings, so my extended family has been big and crazy all of my life. I have a Godmother, and an aunt who I call my “other mother”- aunt Roxy, many many cousins my age, and one grandmother still with us today. We are an active family, using our time to camp, play games, have unique family reunions, attend weddings and such and sit around the campfire.

Why Mankato? Why Barnett Photo? I transferred to college here in 2001 to get my BFA in photography and was hired at the lab in 2002. I took over the studio manager position in 2004.

Hobbies & Activities: photography, music, running, reading, volunteering, watching movies,

Favorite Saying/Slogan : By the grace of God, I am what I am.

Favorite Movie: Pay it Forward

Favorite Artist: Recently it is Arnold Newman, “we do not take pictures with our cameras, but with our hearts and our minds”

Favorite Food(s): Bread-sticks, Steak, & Chicken Kiev

Who I admire Most: My parents, it takes awhile in life to acknowledge what courage parents have just to be parents , but when you notice it, you become a different person. I know they sacrifice each day still, just to make everyone else feel better about themselves. My dad has more wisdom then any other father I’ve met. My mother is crazy fun and entertains everyone.

What has changed my life most recently: My trip to New Orleans…how sad, how motivational, how real. & also watching an Inconvenient Truth, a documentary on Global Warming.

My personal Goal: To be a good person, help people around the world through photography.

My Business Goal: To capture the true character of each individual who graces our studio, to give people a portrait and a memory that touches their life forever.
