Looking Back

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Maybe it’s your first time at Barnett Portrait Studio, maybe you’ve been with us since I became studio manager in 2004, either way it’s fun to look back over the past three years.

Here are some of the ways we have changed

in just three short years…

*We have emptied a storage room and made it into an office/consult room/production room

*Added one full time employee, and a couple part time employees for weddings etc.

*Sherry got her Children’ Photographer Certification from MNPPA

*We have remodeled our changing room, with paint & new decor

*The studio has purchased numerous new backgrounds, props and a new hard wood floor

*We added a website, blog and online proofing for long distance weddings

*Sherry received her first print merit score with “San Antonio Winter”

*Our staff has been attending countless seminars ranging from photography basics to advanced photo enhancement techniques. They have learned from nationally recognized photographers from around the nation

*Our business was selected to photograph Tony Dungy when he came to Mankato to speak for Fellowship Of Christian Athletes

*We traveled across Minnesota (From St. Cloud to Worthington) to photograph your wedding day

*Our staff has donated time, talents, products and cash to many nonprofit organizations throughout our region.

*We have touched lives with photography, both near and far, uplifted and motivated people to be their best.

*Our entire lobby has changed it’s appearance, one, two, three…..times

*We have photographed new families, children, high school seniors, parties, weddings, new borns, animals, maternity, commercial, our friends, our neighbors, our church….maybe even you.

*And most recently we have been motivated by you, our friends, to do better, be bigger and push harder no matter what life brings us. Despite hardships, and loses, past joys and celebrations….you inspire me each day to create something better.

              In Closing……

Yesterday a new friend of mine (who works with chemically dependent people) told me “Sherry, I wish I had your job, all you have to do it take pictures”……off all the weeks to mention this to me, I felt a bit of irony in her comment, last week I carried a bit of a burden. Sometimes is not just taking pictures, everyone “takes pictures”. I hope you know that we wear many hats here at the studio. They range from photographer, to receptionist, to janitor, to counselor, to nanny, to big sister, to sales clerk, to student, to design consultant, to personal attendant, to website designer, to computer software fixer person, and to photoshop skilled, to marketing, to fund-raising and even to an educator.

Have a great week everyone!

Meet Laura

lauraafter

She is a high school Senior at Mankato West High School, Mankato. Besides going to school, she enjoys playing volleyball, running track and spending time with her family in Alexandria where they have a cabin. On the volleyball court she plays outside hitter and right side hitter. When she has time to go out to dinner her favorite place to go is Mexican Village.

On the day of her photo shoot we enjoyed the most beautiful weather. We took a trip out to Minneopa Falls where many people were out enjoying nature and having picnics. Her mom, Madeline, got a in a small workout as she helped us carry Laura’s clothing from this spot to that spot. Neither Laura or her family had ever been to Barnett Portrait Studio, and it was great getting to know them. We are looking forward to making some awesome graduation cards for her next spring!

Here are a few of my favorites from the session, Enjoy the slide show below for the whole session!

Wednesday Late Night End

I am just getting in for the night, my clock is just about to turn to midnight. I just returned from the Twin Cities. I was there for the evening to enjoy the great education provided by Clay Blackmore. This was the second time I have been to a conference in one week. One Monday I attended an 8 hour session the the cities also. It  has been an amazing week so far! This evening I learned more in 5 hours then I have in a long time.

I am so excited to put all the knew ideas and knowledge into practice, and tell you more about this week, but first I have to sleep! More tomorrow morning! All the best guys!

Meet Lloyd & Leann

Two of my newest friends, now very close to my heart….

Leann came into our studio one afternoon on a hunt for a photographer. She had been to other businesses, but was still looking to hire someone for her very special 50th anniversary. We are very passionate about our service here at Barnett Portrait Studio, and I can’t tell you enough how honored I was that Leann picked me to be her photographer.

Below are some images from the event. It was a very warm, intimate occasion held at Patti’s Place in Mapleton. We were blessed with a fabulous day and wonderful fellowship. Lloyd and Leann had surrounded themselves with family and close friends. Luke and I had the honor of not only providing her with photography for the event, but we were invited to join them for dinner as well. The food, thanks to Patti Kringel, was some of the best I have ever had, awesome home cooking.

It’s important for me to share these images with you because Lloyd and Leann have been such a blessing for me. Sometimes people come into your life and your not quite sure why. These two have touched many many lives, and they would never tell you that themselves, they don’t have to, you can feel it when you talk to the people they know. They are amazing and humble and true. God Bless the two of you on your 50 years together.
