Pregnancy/Maternity Photography

Baby: Coming Soon

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

There’s something about photographing a maternity session that gets me complete excited. Lately I’m been trying to challenge myself by breaking some portrait lighting rules(such as shooting into the sun) to create something a bit edgy and non traditional. This amazing couple is expecting their first born in early December, and is enjoying the final countdown. They had some engagement photos created on these railroad tracks and wanted to return there to capture a few milestone photos. It was the first time I had taken a maternity session outdoors, but I will consider doing more of them in the future. Congrats you two, and I can’t wait to meet your little one.

Great Expectations

Something I am so excited to create lately are maternity portraits, or rather baby’s belly portrait. I am so excited working with the expecting couple who are eager, nervous, excited and ready for baby to arrive. The couple drove up from Northern Iowa after finding us on-line.

“Baby makes the belly go round”

Mommy to be Amber, called me on a Thursday night stating she had thought about maternity portraits her entire pregnancy, and now that she was beginning the first few signs of labor she wanted to make an appointment with me. I insisted she come first thing the following morning and bring the daddy to be along. So we played with some cute dresses and tops and shared the excitement of what is yet to come. Here are some images from the session.

Spring Babies:

Maternity portraits are a priceless item to have in your portrait collection. Lately I have had the joy of visiting with quite a few expecting parents. I suggest mothers come to the studio in the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy for a maternity session. I take pride in the intimacy this style of portraiture can hold and the most artistic images are kept for only parents to enjoy. For their privacy, they will not be posted here on my public blog.

I do want to share these images from expecting parents whom are ready to welcome little boys into the world very soon.

The un-studio portrait photography

This week I met with an expecting mommy Tressa. She is one of the prettiest people I know and I was completely thrilled she wanted me to do her maternity portraits. I set up these images(and many many more) in her apartment living room. Many clients have asked if I have a studio yet, but truth is I am having a blast not having one (yet). There are so many wonderful things about a person’s personal living space. I am a bit behind on blogging about all the wonderful sessions I have had this week. So, stay tuned for the big catch up!

Have a glorious day.
