The value of a portrait

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

There is something extremely Magical to me about this photo, and I want to share it with you for a number of reasons:
1. It’s not about what they are wearing, if the clothing is in style, or was in style when this was created
2. It’s not about the amazing composition of the wedding couple posed perfectly
3. It’s not about the hair or make up, or flowers or jewelry
4. It’s not about the proper lighting and dodging and burning effect used to frame the couple
5. It’s really not even the expressions the couple have (although I look to see if I can see myself in them) because
It is simply.. the people in the photo.
It is the one of the few images of my grandpa Emil and grandma Darlene Sell created on their wedding day. For me it’s the beginning of romance that would eventually lead to children, grandchildren, jobs, homes, gardens, holiday etc. Even though my visual memory of them is as aged grandparents, I appriciate what story this one image tells me.

A GREAT PORTRAIT….really isn’t about what you wear or if you match or if you can afford designer clothes, A great portrait is “one that is created“. Today I encourage you to start your legacy for generations beyond you. Have someone, somewhere help you create your legacy portrait. Don’t put it off one more second, and should you need my help, I’m only a phone call away.

And the winner is…..

Every so often I partner with a local business person and ask them for a give away to his/her business. In the month of December I featured Alesia Slater of Alesia’s Hiar Salon in Nicollet Minnesota. Her hair salon is approx 6 miles west of our front door, I consider her a nieghboor and a friend.

Alesia’s Hair Salon donated a cut and style and the winner is Stacie B of Madison Lake. Stacie is a full time  mommy to three precious kids and I am sure the pamper time will be well received. (your certificate is in the mail!) Satcie’s name was drawn at random from our client list. Thank you again!

If you or your business would like to involved with our monthly drawings call me at 507.381.8007. Your business will be featured on our blog and you’ll also receive a gift certificate from Inspired to gift to one of your clients.

Let’s all go home again

it’s never too late to create images of what you call home. This couple was leaving this farm place after living here for over 30 years. Just wanted to remind you to hug someone today, and remember what makes you a family.

I have to give a Huge thank you to Lucas, my amazing husband for having a vision and the motivation to stay up many late nights sheeting rocking etc. We also want to thank both of our parents for helping either watch Olivia,  answering endless  questions, and the dedication and manual labor you provided for this project as well. Your hands have touched this space and we will never have enough thank you’s to thank you properly. We are blessed and grateful.

A long journey

In the August of 2007 I traveled with a team of volunteers from Hosanna to do clean up in New Orleans. On that trip I met Christie and Eric Nelson, too of the most amazing people I have ever met! A day before Olivia was born last August the Nelsons began on a trip of a life time and I have been in complete aww of this endeavor. Here is a bit on the couple experiences.
