Jump & Jive Session
I met this little girl when she was three months old, it’s amazing how fast children grow. She is now past her second birthday and on her way to being daddy & mommy’s little princess. She likes to say “Let’s go racing” (her family big racing fans). Her simple little sentence touched my heart, and she had no idea why….below I’ll share the story. When not at the race track, her mommy works in the floral department at Drummers Garden Center, check it out next time you need some sweet smelling flowers.
“Let’s Go Racing” A bit of a tribute
Growing up in southwest Minnesota (Fulda) there wasn’t much to do, but go to the speedway on the weekends. One summer when I was about 15 my aunt Sandy was in charge of the concession stands underneath the seats at the local track. I was hired to work with her most weekends. It was a thrilling place to be, as we’d race up the grandstands to see who had just won, covering our popcorn as the muddy cars flew by. There was a smell in the air that can’t be matched and a joy in the crowd I’ll never forget. It was one of the best jobs I’ve ever had. I share this story with you because my aunt Sandy is in need of prayer. She is one of the biggest racing fans I’ve met to this day. Right now she is facing some challenges. Her kidneys have been failing her for quite sometime and she is regularly on dialysis, as well as medications and life style changes. There may be no cure for her sickness, but I have strong faith that with prayer from all of us she can be healed. So keep Sandy in your thoughts this week as you run about your normal routines, or attend the race nights this fall. Thanks
