A heartfelt thank you to all of our fantastic clients and friends!

– from Kendall

I wanted to personally thank all of our loyal clients.  Thank you for allowing me to get to know you and your families.  Thank you for the genuine interest  in what’s next for me and all the well wishes.  It’s only bigger and better from here!  I am truly excited for the future and am thankful  for the friendships that I have made while working here.  Sherry, Dani and Kandi have been truly amazing friends and I would be nothing without them!

A million thanks to everyone!

I’m looking forward to the rest of my summer having a garage sale, camping and spending time with my husband Luke, our dog t-bone and our families.

Hooray for change!

It’s a great thing!

It’s not good-bye…it’s good night
“Arnie from ”What’s eating gilbert grape”

I didn’t write this, but I wanted to share it today as I pack away the studio and office that I’ll never be in again.  I keep a folder of uplifting stories on my computer, and I open it when I am facing trials and read them, this is the one I read today.

Life Changing Experiences

We touch the lives of others in ways we often never know. People sometimes come into our personal world for fleeting moments and can leave us forever changed. We have more power to create or to destroy than we can imagine. We can leave things or individuals better or worse than we found them. A look, a word, a gesture has tremendous impact and frequently we blither along through our existence unaware of the mighty power that our communication wields.

Here’s an example:

It was a rainy, humid day: the mother of all bad hair days. I was riding on a bus downtown to go to work. The windows on the bus were covered in condensation so thick you couldn’t see outside. Everyone was wilting. I was sitting next to a man in a business suit and didn’t pay much attention until we both got off at the same stop and walked to the same newsstand to get a morning paper.

The man running the stand was obviously having a bad day. He was rude, abrupt and unsmiling as we purchased our papers, which served to only add more gloom to my day. The businessman caught my eye and smiled. He then proceeded to smile brightly, thank the newsstand proprietor for the paper and for being open on such a morning to make sure we were able to get our papers. In short, he expressed his appreciation for something most of us would take for granted.

The man running the newsstand responded only with a grunt and a sour expression. The businessman then pleasantly wished him a pleasant day.

As we turned away, I asked this man why he had continued to be pleasant to the newsman when he obviously didn’t care about and didn’t respond to his expression of appreciation and friendliness. The businessman grinned at me and said, “Why would I let someone else control what I say and what I feel or what kind of day I’m going to have?”

We then separated to go to our respective work places. To this day, I don’t know who that business man was, where he worked, or anything else about him. I never saw him again, even though I looked for him on the bus on other days. He appeared briefly in my life and disappeared just as quickly. I don’t even remember what he looked like. But I’ve never forgotten the words he said or the way his smile seemed like a shaft of light on a gloomy day.

That was a good 25 years ago, but the impact this had on my life has lasted. I never had a chance to thank him personally, but the way in which I try to choose to look at life as a result of those words is his legacy to me and my thanks to him.

Our interactions with the people we encounter can impact at least the next five people that person encounters. A smile and words of simple appreciation multiply themselves geometrically.

We cannot control people and situations that come to us, but we can always control our response to them. And in such positive decisions lie our control and personal power to make a positive difference. And it’s something anyone and everyone can do. It is a real legacy that can impact both the present and the future.

It seemed to rightly appropriate as people stop in just to visit…you have impacted my life

randomness from the heart

It’s early, for me that is and I’m up with so many thoughts racing through my mind. I feel older lately, as I rummage through the “what nows and what ifs”. Then  I remind myself that change isn’t always bad, in fact this change has felt pretty good. The out pouring of love and support from friends, clients, fellow photographers, and family has been amazing. As many of you continue to ask what will I do now, I am planning as fast as I can to get my own business started and not miss a beat.

Truth: this has been the hardest thing I’ve dealt with in a long time. I look around during the day as the portraits slowly come off the walls, the lighting equipment and backgrounds get packed away, my office looks so barren and I’m simply bummed out. I am turning in circles, trying to fill in the gaps, say my sweetest goodbyes(or better yet…I’ll see you laters) creating last minute portraits, and all the while still answering to the person who won’t be my boss in less then 72 hours. It’s weird and sometimes annoying.

My parents are coming to Mankato this weekend. It’s a God thing for sure, they are amazingly supportive in all I do, no matter what price. I am looking forward to seeing them. They remind me why I am a photographer, and why I have the passion to create something for life, about life, for you. Family…..they will always be your #1 fan, no matter how many family events I’ve missed because I’m photographing someone else’s family event, they continue to understand. Because of the love my family gives me, I am able to see it and capture in the lives of others. I can’t wait for my fresh start, I’m looking forward to everything!

Question?

What are we going to do with all the past files from the studio?

All images I have photographed in the last three years will become my property. If people are still interested in ordering portraits from the past, orders need to be by Tuesday, August 5th at 4:00 . After that I can’t guarantee prints will be available for order from past sessions.

All Good Things Must Come to an End

Our staff received the news this Tuesday morning that Barnett Photo (the studio and the lab) will be closing permanently next Saturday, August 9th, 2008 at 5pm

Since we’ve received the news, we have made several attempts to contact our clients and we ask that you spread the word to those who love us most. You still may be receiving a phone call from us if we are able to. Ideally we would have loved to talk to each and every one of you about this. Please don’t take it personal if time doesn’t allow us to say our good bye’s to all of you.

Kendall and I understand that many questions will arise and we will do our best to answer them. Please respect that our staff has a lot of work ahead of us in the next 10 days. Not only do we have to close up shop here, we have to look for new sources of income to support ourselves and our husbands. It is also an emotional time for us as we look back through memories, all that we have built together and all the trials ahead of us. We have become a very close family here and change is sometimes hard for everyone.

Your Questions:

What if I have prints/orders that I haven’t picked up?
*All orders and display prints must be picked up by Thursday, August 7th(unless other arrangements have been made) Nothing will be held beyond that date.

Can I still order portraits and products from my past sessions?
*We are still accepting print orders until 4pm Tuesday, August 5th. You can stop in or call in your order. No specialty products will be produced. All orders placed will be 50% off. Some limitations (such as creating composite prints) will apply due to time restrictions. All orders must be paid in full at the time of order. Following order completion you will be able to pick your order up from the lab or we can mail it to your home.

Will you still be photographing at the studio?
*We are no longer booking studio appointments. I will be able to accept location appointments after Sept 1st. At that time I will be self employed and new policies will be in affect.

How do we contact you in the future?
*You can contact us via barnettportraits@yahoo.com until further notice. If you are not on our email list and would like to be, please email us and let us know.

As much as I love to blog, to write and to create, I’ve been struggling through this blog. It’s one I never wanted to write. Kendall and I will be here until we punch out at 5 pm on Friday, August 8th. We encourage your thoughts, your prayers and your visits to say goodbye. There aren’t enough words to tell you what you and your families have meant to us. Many of you have become our family.  My personal prayer is that you’ll continue to see us in your portraits.

I have worked for Barnett Photo for 6 years 5 months 16 days and 2 hours, and before next Friday I plan to share a trip down memory lane, so stay tuned for those images and stories to appear.

Call us with any questions or concerns, know that we love you and want nothing but the best to come out of this situation. 507.387.4146
